Become an Official

Becoming an official (or referee) is a great way to get involved in weightlifting. Watch competitions from the best seat in the house, right in front of the platform or stage. You and 2 other officals will decide whether the lift is 'good' or a 'no lift'.

Once you become an official, it's a pathway you can take as far as you want to. You'll start at club level and can progress to state, national, and even international level events. For inspiration, see Jessica Edge pictured below officating at the IWF Junior World Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Being an official is for anyone - whether you're a lifter who hasn't officiated, or you love watching the weightlifting action but have never lifted the barbell. We offer courses through the year to teach you what you need to know.

If you want to become an official, go to our Education page. Keep an eye on our social media pages to see when our next loading course will be held.

SA's Jess Edge was an official at the 2023 Junior World Championships held in Guadalajara, Mexico.
